Design: Be Seen or Be Forgotten
Nothing has kept its semi-transparent back panel, and the Glyph Bar light strip on the rear lights up for calls and notifications, making the phone instantly recognisable when you take it out. The cost is a larger and heavier body. At around 205 grams, holding it one-handed for long periods becomes tiring. On top of that, it is only rated IP64, which means it can handle everyday splashes and nothing more.
The Pixel 10a takes the opposite path. The body is noticeably smaller, and at 183 grams with cameras that sit flush with the back, it is barely noticeable in your pocket. An aluminium frame and IP68 water resistance make it more durable. If you accidentally drop it in the sink or take it to the beach, there is no need to worry too much.
Display: Big Screen or Small Screen
This is one of Nothing's clearest advantages on paper. It comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is bigger, sharper, and better for watching video.
Google has stuck with a 6.3-inch P-OLED display. The refresh rate matches Nothing's, but the peak brightness is lower. In everyday use, the 10a is slightly less sharp, yet outdoor brightness is sufficient, the screen is well calibrated, and it is more comfortable to hold for people with smaller hands.
This is not a question of which is better or worse. It is about whether you want a bigger picture or a better grip.
Performance and Updates: Smooth Now or Supported for Longer
The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro runs on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor with up to 12GB of RAM, and it handles everyday tasks and mainstream games smoothly. Its Nothing OS interface is clean and has its own style, but the update commitment is shorter: three major Android version upgrades and around six years of security patches.
The Pixel 10a reuses the previous generation's Tensor G4 chip. Its benchmark scores are unremarkable, but Google has focused on AI features, such as call screening, photo editing, Gemini tools, and the other convenient touches the Pixel line is known for. More importantly, there is the update support: seven years of system and security updates, meaning one phone can last you until 2033. At this price, you will struggle to find anything comparable.
Cameras: Lenses or Algorithms
Nothing is more generous with hardware. Alongside the main camera, there is a 3.5x periscope telephoto lens. A genuine telephoto is rare at this price. If you often photograph distant landscapes, concerts, or sports, this lens will help a great deal.
The Pixel has only a main camera and an ultrawide, with no telephoto. But Google's computational photography remains dependable, especially for portraits and night shots. Press the shutter and you get a stable, pleasing photo.
Battery and Charging: Speed or Convenience
Both phones have batteries of around 5100 mAh, and neither will have trouble lasting a full day of normal use.
The difference lies in how they charge. Nothing supports 50W wired charging, which is faster, but it does not support wireless charging. The Pixel's wired charging is only 30W, which is mediocre, but it does support wireless charging.
So Which One Should You Buy?
If you want a bigger screen, need a telephoto lens, prefer fast charging, and like a distinctive design, then choose the Nothing Phone (4a). In return, you must accept average water resistance, no wireless charging, and a shorter software update window.
If you want a smaller and more durable body, care about portrait and night photography, need wireless charging, and plan to keep one phone for many years, then choose the Google Pixel 10a. In return, you must accept a smaller screen, no telephoto, and modest charging speeds.
There is no outright winner between these two phones, because they have spent the same budget in different places. Nothing spent it on what you can see: the screen, the telephoto lens, the design. Pixel spent it on what lasts: water resistance, algorithms, and seven years of updates.
